Becky Durango: Bio

About Becky - Singer/Songwriter/Music Minister (RScP)

Becky's love of singing and recording
began at the tender age of 2, when her folks handed her a microphone hooked up to a reel to reel recorder. She was amazed to hear herself sing ‘Me and My Teddy Bear’! Her love of music grew, steeped in the roots of the Anglican tradition. As the daughter of an Episcopal priest she grew up immersed in rich vocal traditions such as chanting morning and evening prayer, and high mass at Sunday services. Later influenced by a Billy Graham Crusade, Campus Life Ministries, and the Episcopal Youth Community (EYC), she went on the road in her teens as a featured performer with the New Covenant Singers. She also began performing in theater and was accepted by audition into a performing arts program. Many opportunities presented themselves including a scholarship to ACT, San Francisco.
After birthing two beautiful sons, she co-authored, co-produced and created
the female leading role in a musical comedy: - The Real Lysistrata, (an adaptation) which enjoyed a successful 9-week summer run. After she moved to Oregon she discovered the Center for Spiritual Living, Medford, where she served as Music Director for three years. Becky is a licensed practitioner (spiritual counselor) with United Centers for Spiritual Living. In the fall of 2007 she participated as a member of the music team at The Journey of Awakening Conference in the Ukraine where she was a featured performer for Neale Donald Walsch. Upon her return she completed recording of her first CD and has recently published Remember Who You Are, a CD of original new thought music. The variety of musical styles on the CD is ideal for use by ministers, teachers, spiritual seekers and music lovers of all ages and spiritual paths. Use her uplifting music for spiritual exercise workouts and dance, celebration services, workshops, and meditation, and to enhance daily spiritual practice and uplift faith in the Divine to guide, sustain and transform all experiences to good - no matter what the circumstance.

12Step Experience

A Spiritual Journey with the 12Steps
At 20 years of age, instead of embracing the opportunities offered to me to establish my career as a professional actor, I found myself submerged and mesmerized by the party lifestyle.

As the years passed, my lifestyle helped numb the ache of unfulfilled creative expression and push away ghosts of what might-have-been, but I was a resident of the never-never land of dreams. "Maybe someday" was my mantra: "Someday it will be my turn, someday I'll be good enough, smart enough, lucky enough to achieve and deserve success". But at that point in life I didn't have a mental equivalent to accept the creative life I desired. Blocked by 100 forms of fear, feelings of unworthiness, and the compulsion to replay in my mind painful past experiences, I dwelt on memories of shame and blame and found no acceptance. I did not know how to allow the joy of fulfillment. I knew I had a lot of potential, but believed my fate was that achievement would always be just out of reach

Eventually, the dreams of this never-never land became one long nightmare. I woke from this nightmare for one moment with an honest desire for help and so was open enough to hear and receive the solution. I learned new tools for living through the 12 Steps, and discovered one day at a time (sometimes one moment at a time) a different way to live and think and connect to God as I understood God. I learned to accept responsibility for my actions, the tools to forgive what I believed had been done to me, and to live life in a way that allows me to be of service to others.

Great Discovery - Science of Mind

A Great Discovery - Science of Mind
What if you could be anything you want to be? Create the life you want to live? What if it’s never too late to accomplish your dreams?
I asked myself these questions when I discovered the book, The Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes, and began to study and take the classes offered by the Centers for Spiritual Living.
After my surrender to the process of the working the 12Steps, in several different 12Step programs, I was ready to apply the metaphysical principles I discovered in the writings of Ernest Holmes and the work of many other great teachers including Gary Zukav, Melody Beattie, Louise Hay, Neale Donald Walsch and Abraham-Hicks to name a few.

As I learned to deliberately and consciously use the Law of Attraction, wonderful people appeared to assist me in the process of creating my own CD. I celebrated my 50th birthday recording at A Wing and A Prayer studio with Ron Davis in Central Point. Exactly where I'd envisioned myself working years before! My dream came true -- even better than I'd first imagined it.
